In 1984, Evangelist Oscar
Lane, came to Houston and conducted a crusade that resulted
in over 300 baptisms out of which the Unity Adventist Worship
Center was born. The church went through many growing pains
but maintained its identity. It began as a member of the
Southwest Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. W.C.
Jones was president at the time.
The first pastor was Franklin
S. Hill, III who stayed with the church from 1984-1992.
During his pastorate the church purchased property on Allum
Road and laid plans to build. However, when Richard Barron
became president of Southwest Region Conference in 1986,
the church became independent after the conference decided
to move Elder Hill to Austin, Texas despite the church’s
opposition. Subsequently, Elder Hill started the Heritage
Christian Academy which became a community light with over
120 students. Abruptly, Elder Hill left Unity in the summer
of 1992 to work for the South Central Conference of Seventh-day
Adventists.
In the summer of 1992, Armando
Reid, of the New Creation SDA Church and Troy J. Wilson,
of the Adventist Bible Fellowship, brought their churches
together to unite with the remaining Unity members and sustain
the Church. Errol Jones, also of Adventist Bible Fellowship,
became principal of the school. Armando Reid, served as
the pastor of the church from 1992 to 1998. During his pastorate,
the church rejoined the Southwest Region Conference. The
core of the current church remains from this merger.
In 1998, Pastor Rolando
Baysa was appointed pastor of the church and served until
2002. Also, Troy J. Wilson returned to Unity after serving
the Bellfort Church as Associate Pastor from 1994.
In 2002, Troy J. Wilson,
became the pastor and has remained as such till the present. On July 5, 2008, the church got out the boat and moved into a new facility signing an agreement giving them the right to purchase the property. The church will celebrate its 25th Anniversary the last weekend of March, 2009. The pastor believes the best is yet to come!.
